Information on Coconut Oil, Macadamia Nuts and MCT Oil

Coconut oil and MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) oil are commonly used as supplements by weight trainers. These supplements are not the same type of molecule you will find in a standard cooking oil.  How they work is explained in great detail below. It is optional to use in phase 2 and you should start slow and test your bodies response to these supplements when adding in anything new to protocol. Most find them beneficial and helpful during each phase of protocol.

There has been a lot of discussion about these items and using them while on the protocol. Please keep in mind that these items are not in Dr. Simeon’s original protocol but most find that these items have been very helpful in losing weight. As always, introduce slowly and with caution as every body is different and every body will react differently.

Extra Virgin Raw Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been much discussed by those on protocol as a way to lose weight. We believe that coconut oil can boost energy, while decreasing cravings for carbohydrates and sweets. It is known to stimulate metabolism, improve digestion, and release fat cells. It also gently stimulates the thyroid. Here is a Vlog explaining coconut oil and its benefits:

Coconut Oil is the healthiest oil we can eat. Use the pure, organic brand to make sure you are getting the best possible oil. Coconut oil comes directly from the plant source, not an animal source. The coconut oil can be used every day. You don’t need to count the calories in coconut oil. The oil is used for energy in our bodies and not stored as fat. Most notice a loss in inches but some do see a loss in fat as well.

Most fats are made up of fatty acids linked together in relatively long chains and are stored in our bodies for energy later. (Fat is basically stored energy in our bodies) So, most oils are fat stored in our bodies. Coconut Oil on the other hand is a shorter molecule known as a medium chained molecule. It is immediately burned as energy and does not store as fat in our bodies.

Coconut Oil is low in calories, low in fat, and nutritious, while providing the body with an energy source instead of carbohydrates. You do not need to count coconut oil in your daily calories since it is not stored in our bodies. Coconut Oil will indeed assist in raising Ketone levels which causes the release of fat. This can be proven by testing your urine with Ketosis stick. (link to ketone page)

There are many sources of coconut oil on the market. This oil can become a solid if it gets too cold, usually below 76 degrees it becomes more solid. Some keep it on top of your refrigerator to help keep it soft or liquid. Use Coconut Oil for baking, cooking, sautéing or in your favorite health shake. Also, amazing as a beauty product – for hair and body.

Suggested use: 2-3 tablespoons per day to improve your metabolism and lose weight. Best if spread throughout the day.

MCT (Medium-chain triglycerides)

A lot of people associate MCT with body building as it helps preserve muscle mass during fat loss–especially in times of low-carb dieting. And now it’s being talked about for other uses, including weight loss. MCT oil can be used to increase the overall ketone level, and as a booster when ketones are low. Some also report reduced hunger pangs while taking MCT oil.

Like Coconut Oil, it’s not stored in our bodies as fat, but rather used immediately as energy. Use MCT oil in the morning to boost ketones quickly. Drink as is, add it to juices, protein shakes or water. You can also cook with it in, and add it to dressings and marinades. To avoid possible stomach upset, start with no more than one tablespoon per day.

Macadamia Nuts

Macadamia nuts provide a wide range of beneficial compounds. They are a high energy food, full of protein and fiber and loaded with other important nutrients. Macadamia nuts have been known to raise ketones and if you are on P2 they can help break a stall. We suggest that if you don’t need them, don’t add them to your daily food intake. If you hit a plateau and you decide to try the macadamia nuts

Suggested use: To break a stall on P2, eat no more than 15 per day. You do not need to count your calories in your 500 count. P3 count your calories and introduce carefully as some show a reaction to nuts.
